Dr. Marc Hafkin has been in private practice since 1975 seeing indiviuals, couples and doing group psychotherapy as well as supervising Master's and Doctoral candidates in their clinical training. He completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Crownsville Hospital Center in Crownsville, Maryland from 1981 to 1984. He did graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo earning two degrees the Master Of Social Work and Master's in Counseling Psycholgy and went on to do a Ph.D in Counseling Psychology at American University in Washington, D.C.
Dr Hafkin has been trained in numerous approaches to clinical psychotherapy and is currently involved in Psychodrama training in Florida offered by two world renowned trainer's. He has trained with Master's and Johnson's in their sex therapy and research clinic assessing couples and treating them for various sexual and emotional issues. Dr Hafkin has also worked in a treatment center for emotionally disturbed children and in numerous psychiatric hospitals and prisons treating individuals for their cognitive and emotional distresses. He has experience in training Police officers in domestic dispute resolution as a means of intervention and has done forensic profiling and psychological testing and evaluations.
For the past thirty plus years Dr Hafkin has consulted with Senior Vice Presidents from numerous consulting organizations such as Booze, Allen and Hamilton, Ernst and Young,The World Bank, Price Waterhouse, Goldman Sachs, Mckinsey etc to help senior staff become more effective in their professional careers. Aditionally, Dr Hafkin has consulted with various embassies in the area of bi-cultural counseling as a result of having lived abroad for many years and speaking several languages. Most recently Dr Hafkin has become quite interested in the use of the internet as a weapon of "hostility" and "mis-information" and it's psychological and traumatic impact on individuals both in the professional and business community.
Dr Hafkin has also had extensive experience in the area of blended families and remarriage due to research and experience in an area that was not fully explored in the early 1970's. Along with his wife Dr. Nancy Hafkin and other professionals in the field, the concept of the Stepfamily Association of America was conceived. The Association was created in order to help other stepfamilies and professionals understand the unique dynamics of a blended family which at the time was not fully explored or understood.
Dr Hafkin is also a Diplomate in the fields of Clinical Social Work and Professional Counseling which is the highest credential a professional can have for academic and clinical excellence.
